Based on the acclaimed ROUSH Stage 3 Mustang, the 427R horsepower package is highlighted by the intercooled ROUSHcharger* system which adds 115 horsepower and 65 lb-ft of torque to the base Ford 4.6L, 3-valve V8 powertrain system. The additional power upgrade comes via a ROUSH-engineered ECM calibration which has been specially-tuned to work in harmony with the different exhaust system used on the vehicle.

Further adding to the style and performance of the 2009 ROUSH 427R is a four-piece aerobody kit which includes a stylized front fascia, front chin spoiler, hood scoop and rear wing and ROUSH 18-inch cast chrome wheels with high-performance tires and the special 427R striping kit.

The 325 hp V8 Shelby GT is new for 2009. Based on the Hertz rental-only Shelby GT-H, the production model comes equipped with automatic or manual transmission with a power-boost from a cold-air intake and a freer-flowing exhaust setup. Two color-schemes are available: black/white with silver stripes.

It is reported that Ford plans on capping production at 10,000 units with modifications performed by Shelby Automobiles in Las Vegas.

California Special
The Mustang GT/California Special arrives as a full, stand-alone option package on the 2009 Mustang.

Much like the 1968 GT/CS that offered Mustang buyers more aggressive styling that was “Inspired by the Shelby GT,” the new California Special also draws some cues from the 2009 Shelby. What’s more, it offers the kind of limited-production exclusivity that has made the original California Special such a big favorite with Mustang collectors over the years.
